Just a few things.

I don't have a lot of time today, but a few things have been on my mind lately and I wanted to share them here.

1. I CAN'T believe it's nearly June. JUNE. 2009 is nearly half-way done and I still have trouble believing it started. Where in the world does the time go??

2. I'm in the middle of 3 books at the  moment: Quite a Year For Plums, This Republic of Sorrows, and Island of the Blue Dolphins. Anyone reading this reading anything interesting these days? I'm hoping to get to the library again soon.

3. The OTH season finale was Monday. I loved it. Jennifer, it was so much more fun "chatting" about it with you. Though, the fact that Peyton and Lucas are not coming back next season still has me wondering if I'll watch it again in the fall. The music in the episode was awesome, though. "Come Around by Rosi Golan and "Murderous Air" by Tim Williams were some favorites.

Gotta go. HAPPY THURSDAY!

Apologies if this publishes about a zillion times - I've been having problems logging into my google account!

Anyway, two books I read recently and enjoyed greatly are Olive Kitteridge by Elizabbeth Stroutt and The Road Home by Rose Tremain - the first is about a school teacher (now retired) who lives in a small town - the sort of place where everyone knows everyone else's business! It's interesting as each chapter is narrated by a different character and a composite image of Olive is formed gradually. A little in the style of Alice Monro. The second is about an immigrant to England living in London and attempting to make a living. Concerned with questions of identity, what makes a home, and family, it layers the London landscape with reminiscences of the past. It's a hopeful, at times deeply sad, book.

I picked for my bookclub this month (it's full of menopausal women - I'm the youngest member!) and we're reading one of my all time favourites: An Equal Music by Vikram Seth - definitely one to lay hands on if you like classical music, or even just enjoy a great love story.

I greatly enjoy reading your blog, Olivia - I am aware that you seem to target it more for your friends and family, so I hope you don't mind me checking in every so often from Christi's site - but I like your comments about living life to the full.

Intrigued about the Irish/Belfast thing - what's that all about?!

HI Irene,

Thank you so much for your sweet message. I'm honored that you think my blog is worth following; thank you! And, thanks for the book recommendations. I'm a complete book worm and will definitely be adding those to my list.

We'll be in touch,
Olivia
